Fit Camp! {from home}

Since Henry & Emily are gonna be crawling, walking, and running all over creation soon, keeping fitness a priority this year is so important to me. Mama Kath’s gotta keep up!

picmonkey-photoI go to StudiOne Tulsa once a week for their bootcamp class and I recently learned about their 12 week fit camp that I can sign up for and do from home. This is PERFECT for me! Having 3 home workouts a week sent to me from Coach Sprenkel (co-owner of StudiOne Tulsa) is exactly what I need. It fits right in line with my goals for 2017 (My 2017)!

Anyone wanna join meeee? I hope you will! I’d love to have more friends do this with me along the way. I plan on posting frequent updates on Instagram (@OK.Kath) and once a month on the blog to stay accountable. Here are the details:

What:

Fit Camp (remotely) through StudiOne Tulsa

How:

3 days of strength circuits are sent to participants each week. Circuits are less than 30 minutes and they can be broken up into 3 smaller circuits throughout the day. There’s even a Facebook community group that we get to join to help stay motivated!

$75 covers all 12 weeks. Otherwise, all you need are dumbbells/weights (I’m usin’ my babies!), a mat, and something to step on & off.

Where:

Wherever I want! Living room, nursery, backyard/park (weather-willing). If you’re thinking of doing it (yay!!!) you don’t have to be in the Tulsa area. Anyone can sign up. East coast, west coast, midwest friends: y’all should seriously do this with me!

When:

It starts on Monday, Jan 16 & lasts for 12 weeks. This is the best way to make sure my goals won’t be just a Jan/Feb thing. This sets the tone for the entire year, and by the time Spring running races roll around – I’ll be ready!

Who:

I’m so pumped 🙂

Cheers, 2016!

It’s crazy that a brand new year is almost here. This has truly been the wildest year of my life. The most beautiful, mentally exhausting, physically demanding, emotionally draining year…but also, hands down the happiest year of my life.

Funny how that works. A year of challenges unlike any others you’ve faced…all to bring you to a place of happiness you’ve never known before.

I’ve re-learned how to trust, how much my mind and body are capable of, how unbelievably powerful faith is, how to remain patient, and how much good there is in the world.

I couldn’t be happier to celebrate 2016 and welcome 2017 at home with my hubby, our sleeping babies, a glass (or more…) of wine, chinese takeout, t.v. movies, and text updates from my family and my besties.

And yes…Sean is absolutely wearing Henry’s tuxedo bib in this picture. You’re welcome. 😉

To our sweet Henry & Emily who are sleeping away upstairs: we only hope that we make you as happy every day as you make us.

2017 – you’re up 😉

Big hugs,

Katherine

My Fit Mix – 15 for ’15

A new year calls for a new line up of tunes, so I’m sharing 15 of my favorites for 2015! Some of these are recycled from the past few years, and that’s fine. No need to trash perfectly good inspiration!

I’m determined to keep my fitness efforts consistent this winter.

Now, when the weather warms and becomes more bearable, I think it’s safe to say that we’re all easily inspired again to run, squat, bike, cartwheel, walk, and jumping jack outside. But this is January, and next month is February, and I hate to state the obvious, but we’re far from that envious scene of heavily breathing outside in tanks, shorts, and sunshine. It’s crucial to keep the new year, new girl, and “newlie” mentality spinning as I’ve intended (despite the freezing wind outside). Lucky for these tunes – I’ve got new inspiration practically screaming at me with positivity (or in some lyrical cases…more fun beats than positivity, hehe) for every minute of  my workout.

I love love LOVE the way these songs keep me moving, and hope they inspire any of you to throw together your new 15 for ’15 too:

Demons - Imagine Dragons
Shake It Off - Taylor Swift
Roar - Katy Perry
Team - Lorde
Turn Down For What - DJ Snake & Lil Jon
One Life - James Morrison
On Top of the World - Imagine Dragons
I Lived - OneRepublic
I Bet My Life - Imagine Dragons
Problem - Ariana Grande & Iggy Azalea
Shut Up and Dance - Walk The Moon
Pompeii - Bastille
Uptown Funk - Bruno Mars
Bang Bang - Jessie J, Ariana Grande, & Nicki Minaj
Life Is Short - Butterfly Boucher

So, what are your songs? Got any recommendations for me? What gets you “newlie” rejuvenated mid-workout when you’re ready to quit (or hurl) but know you need to keep pushing through?  I’d love to hear your favs.

Happy fit mixin!

One Life

Two words are echoing in my heart this week thanks to James Morrison’s delicate rasp and powerful message that we don’t hear enough:

“One life…”

Know that little song of his? It speaks volumes through its soft, catchy, and dramatic melody. At the end of this post I’ve included the lyrics and a link to the YouTube video, but I recommend playing the video then quickly scrolling down to just read the lyrics below as he sings. The lyrics speak more powerfully than his video does.

It got me thinking, as most lovely songs about life often do, about the new year approaching. Whether you begrudgingly allow the new year to happen, or you’ve written a hearty little novel of resolutions for 2015…it’s a time for reflection either way. This year, for some, have been tough. For others, it’s been filled with enough joy to light up an Oklahoma midnight sky.

For me, it was filled with a whole lot of change, much needed in some ways, always gracefully met with embrace. Sean and I have God, family, friends, and everyone we’ve met from Oklahoma to thank for that :). I’m a better person for this move. I have a lot on my mind with what I want out of 2015, but I’ll save that post for when 2015 actually arrives. For now, it’s a time of reflection and I feel that this song, “One Life,” honors that beautifully. What gets me in those lyrics is that it really is just one simple life that I live. One life.

How grateful we should be to have the things, shelters, opportunities, jobs, families, friends, and finances that surround us. Grateful to have something to cheers with on a night like New Year’s Eve. The life we have must be lived to the fullest – are you doing that? Better get busy livin.

To remind myself of this year’s moments – and the people I’m beyond blessed to have in my life, I’ve put together this short but sweet little Flipgram. Enjoy!

To my hubs, family, and friends – thank you for a great year…and a glorious life. Big ol’ cheers to you tonight as we all ring in our new year.

As promise, the video and lyrics:

When I was a young boy
I was living for the moment
The world was wide open
I had every choice
But with so many choices
I just didn’t know what to do now
All I say is forget it
If you tell me I’ll regret it
Just let it be what it is
Coz it’s so easy to say
If I knew yesterday what I know today, where would I be tomorrow
I won’t let my soul slide away, I’d do whatever it takes
Coz this time’s only borrowed
I got one life, one life, one life and I’m gonna live it
I got one life, one life, one life and I’m gonna live it right
My daddy sat me down, he said,
“Son it’s probably time to start making some plans”
And I said, “No, not right now”
With so many choices
I just didn’t know what to do now
All I’d say is forget it when he’d tell me I’d regret it
Just let it be what it is, coz it’s so easy to say.
If I knew yesterday what I know today, where would I be tomorrow
I won’t let my soul slide away, I’d do whatever it takes
Coz this time’s only borrowed
I got one life, one life, one life and I’m gonna live it
I got one life, one life, one life and I’m gonna live it right
You say the more you think you know what’s right
The less you do what you feel inside
So I won’t pretend that I always know
I just follow my heart wherever it goes
And I may not always get it right
But at least I’m living coz I’ve only got this
One life, one life, one life, I’ve got this one life.
If I knew yesterday what I know today, where would I be tomorrow
I won’t let my soul slide away, I’d do whatever it takes
Coz this time’s only borrowed
I got one life, one life, one life and I’m gonna live it
I got one life, one life, one life and I’m gonna live it right
When I’m an old man, hope I’ll be rocking in my chair
Smiling to myself
I’ll tell my baby girl
“You only get one life, so make sure you live it right”

~James Morrison
