Thirty Two

I love birthdays. I’ve always felt that’s it’s an adorably special way to celebrate life by honoring the day we were born.

Today’s mine 🙂

I can safely say that “thirty two” is the happiest, most balanced I’ve ever felt. Life is never perfect, nor will it ever be, but I’m a firm believer in being on high alert for all the good that surrounds us. So naturally, I’ve made my annual birthday list of the random, lovely, perfect little things that make me oh-so happy; in no particular order of course. This year the list reaches 32…but I feel so fortunate knowing that it could go on and on :).

  1. Embracing new adventures.
  2. Quiet weekends at home.
  3. Lots and lots and lots of laughter.
  4. An Oklahoma sunrise & sunset.
  5. How much our yellow lab, Stella, loves to snuggle.
  6. These two little miracles growing in my belly…and the incredible fact that there are 3 beating hearts in me right now.
  7. Unbelievably delicious meals.
  8. Avocados.
  9. Unwavering care and devotion from family.
  10. The ability to stay in touch with friends from miles and miles away.
  11. Popcorn…always.
  12. Long walks with Stella to the neighborhood across the street where we see horses, an adorable Sybian pony, donkeys, chickens and roosters.
  13. Listening to Miles Davis, Etta James, Ray Charles, and Frank Sinatra on vinyl.
  14. Podcasts.
  15. Binge watching Parenthood on Netflix.
  16. Dedication.
  17. The realization that I will soon, finally, become a mama.
  18. How no one makes me laugh quite like my hubby.
  19. Spontaneously dancing when the mood strikes.
  20. French fries.
  21. Good, genuine country music.
  22. Cowboy boots.
  23. Prenatal yoga.
  24. Front porches.
  25. Maternity clothes.
  26. Watching a storm roll in during the Summer.
  27. How the awesome company I work for, Community HigherEd, gives employees a “Birthday Holiday” to enjoy!
  28. Attempting to wear lipstick more often.
  29. A new dress from Anthropologie.
  30. Mama’s mashed potatoes.
  31. Choosing happiness.
  32. Savoring sleep while I still can.

I hope this inspires you to make your own list! Or, feel free to totally go to town with your own list in a comment below. I’d LOVE to read it! Consider it a birthday present 🙂

So Very Thankful

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, friends!!! Ohhhhh how I love this season. It builds a much needed anticipation of all things – good; in its purest, most honorable, and gorgeous meaning. The joy, hopefulness, hugs, prayer, laughter, and home-cooked meals that the holiday season delivers is just remarkable. I wish that wherever you are and whoever you’re with today, that the day fills your heart with all things good. You most certainly deserve that.

As for me, I couldn’t be happier. This has been an incredible year filled with so much good. There were of course some “downs” that snuck in there before and after some “ups” in the year, but that’s to be expected; this is life, after all. If anything, holidays like Thanksgiving remind me to look back on any disappointments yielded against my own silly agenda and to be so very thankful for where each moment led me in the end.

In true Katherine-fashion…I wanna make a list 🙂 You should try it too. It’s fun and even a little therapeutic! My unwavering love of list-making (happy things only, always…that’s the rule) is one that will stay with me into my older-than dirt years and I’m so excited to watch how these lists progress over time.
